Mumbai Indians’ Kerala spinner Vignesh Puthur impressed every cricket fans on his IPL debut by taking the wickets of Ruturaj Gaekwad and Shivam Dube in their IPL 2025 debut match against Chennai Super Kings on Sunday at MA Chidambaram Stadium. The left-arm wrist spinner, who came in as a replacement for Rohit Sharma, was Mumbai’s impact player. He dismissed CSK captain Ruturaj Gaekwad in the very his first over.
Then, the Malayali player brought Mumbai back into the game by dismissing Chennai Super King’s player Shivam Dubey. He also take wicket of Deepak Hooda to increase his wicket tally to three. The Kerala Player Vignesh took three wickets for 32 runs in his four overs. Vignesh performed well, but the team could not win against Mumbai Indians . Chennai returned with a four-wicket great victory on Rachin Ravindra’s half-century. It is worth mentioning that Vignesh, a left-arm wrist spinner like Kuldeep Yadav, What else is there to say, he has not played senior-level cricket for Kerala.
Perinthalmanna, Malappuram is the birthplace of Vignesh. His father Sunil Kumar is an autorickshaw taxi driver and his mother K.P. Bindu is a normal housewife. Despite financial difficulties, his family has been a source of support in his cricketing journey. To fulfill his cricketing dreams, Vignesh shifted from Malappuram to Thrissur in kerala. He started his career as a medium pacer in college cricket and later switched to spin bowling. Vignesh came to performing while playing for St. Thomas College, Thrissur.
There he become a post graduted a Master of Arts in Literature. His performances for Alapuzha Ripples in the first edition of the Kerala Cricket League brought him to the limelight. He has also played in the Tamil Nadu Premier League. Although he has played age-group cricket for Kerala, including the Under-23 level, he has not represented the state at the senior level. Mumbai Indians watched Vignesh’s talent while playing in the Kerala Cricket League. Mumbai Indians bought him for Rs 30 lakhs in the 2025 IPL auction.
